Oil and Gas in Colorado

In Colorado, oil and natural gas development has been part of the state’s economy and energy story for over a century. Today, Colorado is one of the top energy-producing states in the country, and the oil and natural gas industry supports tens of thousands of jobs, generates significant tax revenue that funds schools and public services, and helps meet the energy needs of our communities.

Operators like Dunamis work within one of the nation's most stringent regulatory environments to develop resources responsibly. Development in Colorado is regulated by the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), which has oversight for oil and gas development in the state, and sets and enforces strict standards for safety, environmental protection, and community engagement, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), which oversees air and water quality.

In addition to state permits, Dunamis works closely with county and municipal governments to ensure our operations comply with local land-use regulations.  Local government permitting includes coordinating traffic management plans, construction timelines, and community notification requirements.

Key mitigation practices Dunamis employs include:

Soundwalls are installed where required to reduce noise impacts on neighbors and wildlife.

Pipeline transport of oil and natural gas, where available, to significantly reduce truck traffic and associated emissions over the life of the well.

Grid power for drilling and production, where available, to reduce the number of engines and other sources of emissions on location.

Proper storage and handling of materials on-site, including the preservation of topsoil during construction.

Baseline water quality sampling before drilling and after the location begins producing.

Multi-layer steel casing and cement in every wellbore to protect underground water aquifers.

Continuous air and noise monitoring and reporting as required.

Protecting Colorado’s land, water, and air is a responsibility we take seriously.
